Admissions

Admissions Criteria at Bobby Moore Academy

The Bobby Moore Academy is a government approved Free School located in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We are proud to serve the Olympic boroughs (Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forest) which surround the park.

We are an all-through school with two forms of entry in the primary phase and six forms of entry in the secondary phase. All students, regardless of their background and abilities, are welcome at Bobby Moore Academy, as we firmly believe that every pupil has the right to a world class education.

We are an academy, which means we are our own admission authority but have adopted the London Borough of Newham’s admission arrangements and processes to ensure continuity across the borough.

Bobby Moore Academy was formed in 2017 and has grown in size each year. Our current cohort includes Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in Primary and Year 7 up to Year 10 in Secondary.

We also have a sixth-form as part of the Secondary site which will be operational for the 2022/23 academic year.

At full capacity our PAN will be 1560 as indicated below:

  • Reception to Year 6 – 420 students
  • Year 7 to Year 11 – 900 students
  • Sixth form - 240 students

The staff and pupils of Bobby Moore Academy would welcome you to apply for a place at our school.  To do this you must follow the correct process for your child’s age as detailed below.

All applications for this school must be made directly through the London Borough of Newham’s Pupil Services.

Applications made outside the normal admissions round (in-year admissions) should be made directly to the Newham admissions team. Parents/carers can apply for a place for their child at any time and to any academy. If more applications are received than there are places available, the oversubscription criteria shall apply.

Further details are available at https://www.newham.gov.uk/schools-education/year-admissions/1

School places are usually offered within 10 days.

Please note, the place offered may not be at the school of preference as that school may not have a suitable place available.

Fair Access Protocol (FAP)

The law requires that each local authority must have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP) to ensure that for In-Year admissions unplaced children, especially the most vulnerable, are offered a place at a suitable school as quickly as possible.  In agreeing a protocol, the local authority must ensure that no school - including those with available places - is asked to take a disproportionate number of children who have been excluded from other schools, or who have challenging behaviour.  Bobby Moore Academy has signed up to the LB Newham’s Fair Access Protocol.

Further details on the Fair Access Protocol is available at https://www.newham.gov.uk/fairaccess

Appeals

All Admissions appeals are handled by Newham pupil services. Further details on the appeals process is available at the following links:

Waiting List

All schools in Newham hold waiting lists if they have more applications than places available.

Children are automatically added to the waiting list when their parents/carers have a current live school application for the school and that school is listed as a higher preference than a school they have been offered.

For schools that are a lower preference on a live application, than the school offered, children can still be added to the waiting list but their parents/carers must email pupil.services@newham.gov.uk to request this.

Further guidance is available at https://www.newham.gov.uk/schools-education/offer-places/1

Sixth Form

We are considering opening our sixth form early. More information on the sixth form admissions will be added prior to opening and during a public consultation.
