Students from East London's Bobby Moore Academy treated to masterclass with world medallists

Lucky students from East London’s Bobby Moore Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, were invited to test out the brand-new London Marathon Community Track and were coached by two Team GB Olympians.

The state-of-the-art running track, which is located next door to the Bobby Moore Academy secondary site, will now be used as the academy’s new sporting facility.

To celebrate the track’s official opening, Year 7 students from the academy were put through their paces as part of an exclusive master class led by Olympic athletes, Asha Philip and Rabah Yousif. The two athletes spent time with the students as they helped them to work on their skills.

Stuart Burns, Principal at Bobby Moore Academy, said: “This was an incredible moment for our students at Bobby Moore Academy.

“Not only were they some of the first to test the brand-new track, but they also had an exclusive opportunity to meet and train with Olympic athletes.

“We are incredibly privileged to have access to a number of incredible sporting facilities within the Olympic Park, including the London Marathon Community Track. The students cannot wait to start using this inspirational facility as part of everyday life at Bobby Moore Academy.

“Thank you so much to all at the London Marathon Community Track for this amazing experience today. It was an absolute honour for our students to be a part of the celebrations.”

The state of the art Bobby Moore Academy, set in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, opened its doors for the very first time in September 2017. The school currently caters for 125 Year 7 students, and will eventually educate 1,560 students over two inspiring academy sites.
