Stephanie Moore MBE celebrates milestone at East London’s Bobby Moore Academy
Students and staff at East London's Bobby Moore Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, were delighted to welcome Stephanie Moore MBE to mark a key milestone in the construction of the new secondary site.
The brand-new secondary school site, which is situated in the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, is set to open its doors to Year 7 and 8 students for the very first time in September.
Alongside a number of invited guests, Stephanie Moore MBE, Bobby’s widow and founder of the Bobby Moore Fund, was given an exclusive tour of the secondary site to see the progress that has been made.
Led by Ivan Fluin, Project Director at Balfour Beatty, the group made their way through the school’s impressive facilities, including specialist science labs and a remarkable sports hall. Guests also had the opportunity take in the spectacular views of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from the sports hall roof terrace.
As part of the celebrations, Stephanie unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion alongside David Ross, Sponsor and Chairman of the David Ross Education Trust.
Stephanie Moore MBE said: “I am delighted to witness the astounding progress that has been made here. It is truly inspiring to see this impressive school situated within the heart of such an iconic location.
“I have no doubt that this is going to be a fantastic place for students to learn. I am so impressed with the school and cannot wait to see the students enjoy these world-class facilities in September.”
During her visit, Stephanie spent time speaking to current Year 7 about their experiences of life at the academy. The students have been situated at the school’s completed primary site until the much larger secondary building is complete.
Gabriel Boateng, a Year 7 student at Bobby Moore Academy, was delighted to meet Stephanie during her visit. He said: “It was a great experience meeting Stephanie Moore. She was really interested to hear more about what we have been doing at school.
“The new building looks amazing and I can’t wait to move over in September. I am so proud to be a student at Bobby Moore Academy, not many people can see the Olympic Park from their classroom window!”
Rowena Hackwood, Chief Executive Officer at the David Ross Education Trust, was left extremely impressed following the tour. She said: “I am thrilled with the excellent progress at the secondary site of Bobby Moore Academy, which will provide a world-class education for our students.
“It is fantastic to see the school building progressing well, and there is no doubt that this will be an outstanding learning environment.
“This is a very exciting time for our students, staff and community, and I know that they cannot wait to move into their new school.”
